Be self-reliant and believe that knowledge changes fate”, Liu Zilin, the Secretary of Party Committee of Liuzhou Vocational & Technical College (hereinafter referred to as LVTC), said repeatedly in front of elementary school children from poverty-stricken families in Batuan Village and Jupan Village, Dudong Town, Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County. He also said to the Major Secretaries stationed in villages: “Libraries should be well constructed and used in the villages and open to children to read books. Children should be provided with good books, learning venues and conditions”. The sincere words reflected the profound understanding and high attention of LVTC leaders from the education industry to “poverty alleviation by helping the poor build up the will and courage to get rid of poverty and improve their comprehensive quality to become better off”, and also highlighted the distinctive characteristics of LVTC’s poverty alleviation work, which was different from that of other Party and government departments and industrial enterprises.

In order to further implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important remarks on poverty alleviation and the spirit of the Symposium on Poverty Alleviation in Deep Poverty-stricken Areas as well as relevant requirements of Guangxi and Liuzhou City on supervising the poverty alleviation, and to ensure that the poor villages supported by LVTC will be lifted out of poverty with high quality as scheduled, Liu Zilin led the team to the front line of the battle against poverty in Batuan Village and Jupan Village, Dudong Town, Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County to supervise the poverty alleviation work on August 5 and 6, 2020, and also visited LVTC’s Major Secretaries and working staff stationed in these villages. Vice President Wei Lin and the relevant department heads, a total of 4 persons, joined the supervision work.

In this supervision work, accompanied by the Major Secretary Chen Yueming staioned in Batuan Village, the Major Secretary Yang Nan staioned in Jupan Village and the working staff Huang Zhuqiang, the team led by Liu Zilin arrived in Batuan Village and Jupan Village successively, had an in-depth exchange with village cadres, and visited 4 poverty-stricken households including Wu Taoyun’s family. In the villages, Liu Zilin had a detailed understanding of the poverty alleviation work, and told LVTC’s Major Secretaries stationed in the villages to focus on the key points and difficulties in accordance with the target requirements, to ensure the completion of poverty alleviation targets and tasks on schedule, to establish a long-term rural revitalization mechanism, to prevent those families which have got rid of poverty from returning to poverty, and to help complete the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects. In poverty-stricken households, the team led by Liu Zilin had a detailed understanding of their family situations, learned about the reasons of being trapped in poverty, their current income, actual difficulties and support requirements, the health condition of the elderly and the education or employment status of children in the families, introduced to them the relevant state policies on student assistance, encourage them to attach importance to their children's education, send their children to university or vocational school, and encourage them to enhance their confidence in getting rid of poverty, so that the future will be better and better. Liu Zilin instructed LVTC’s Major Secretaries stationed in the villages to further increase the care and assistance to poor households, and take effective supporting measures to solve their living difficulties in a timely, long-term and stable manner.

In Jupan Village, Liu Zilin made a brief report on LVTC’s targeted poverty alleviation work to Zheng Junkang, the Secretary of CPC Liuzhou Municipal Committee who was conducting a research on poverty alleviation in Jupan Village, accompanied Zheng Junkang together with Cui Jun, member of the Standing Committee and Secretary General of CPC Liuzhou Municipal Committee, Gan Yi, Secretary of CPC Liunan District Committee, Zhao Taotao, Deputy Secretary of CPC Sanjiang County Committee and so on under the leadership of Yangnan, the Major Secretary stationed in Jupan Village, to have a field visit to the chicken farm in Jupan Village to understand the poverty alleviation through industrial development in Jupan Village, and visited 3 poverty-stricken households, having a in-depth understanding of the actual poverty alleviation work and checking relevant poverty alleviation materials.

“What is the construction area of the school? When will it be put into use? How is the canteen construction going? Is lunch guaranteed for students?” “What is the usable area of the office building? Are there dormitories available? What difficulties are there in the current construction?” Liu Zilin and Wei Lin inspected the construction of the new teaching building of Juhe Elementary School in Jupan Village and the new village institution of Jupan Village, and put forward clear requirements to Yang Nan: "Promote the project construction in accordance with the time requirements, ensure the quality of the project construction, strive to complete the construction on schedule with high quality and put them into use as soon as possible. If there is any difficulty in the construction process or in purchase of facilities and equipment in the later period, LVTC as the backing unit will give full support.” It is learned that the new teaching building of Juhe Elementary School and the new village institution of Jupan Village will be completed and put into use in September. At that time, LVTC will donate to build a “LVTC Book House of Love” in the newly built Juhe Elementary School.

To enable children in poor areas to receive good education is an important task of poverty alleviation and development, as well as an important way to break the intergenerational transmission of poverty. In July, LVTC organized a charity donation activity to help poverty alleviation, with the active participation of all teachers and students. In just one week, LVTC received more than CNY 26,000 in cash and nearly 500 books. In front of the old teaching building of Juhe Elementary School, a delegation led by Liu Zilin held a simple donation ceremony with the village cadres. At the ceremony, Liu Zilin handed over the donation board full of the deep friendship of LVTC teachers and students to the cadres of Jupan Village. It is reported that the fund donated will be handed over by the Guangxi Longcheng Youth Development Foundation directly to 18 outstanding students from poor families identified in Jupan Village next week in the government of Dudong Town, Sanjiang County in accordance with the stipulated procedure.

LVTC Party Comittee has always attached great importance to poverty alleviation and regarded fixed assistance work as an extremely important political task. After years of unremitting efforts, sending several groups of cadres to carry out a number of assistance work, and investing a series of special funds, LVTC has made remarkable achievements in assisting designated poverty-stricken villages to carry out various poverty alleviation work. Batuan Village, Yazhai Village, Tangchao Village and Zhiliao Village have successfully shaken off poverty, and the poverty alleviation indicators of Jupan Village have also been achieved basically.

Currently, the battle against poverty has reached the literally decisive moment. As a backing unit, LVTC made all-out efforts in the decisive battle. LVTC leaders went to the front line to supervise the battle for many times, and LVTC organized several special work meetings to formulate detailed supervision plans and strictly implement them. In addition, LVTC launched the "public welfare supermarket" project to purchase a large number of farmer-assisting products, gave full play to the advantages of the vocational education industry and arranged a series of skills trainings so that the poor can acquire more knowledge and skills. Under the overall planning and promotion of LVTC leaders, various functional departments and secondary schools of LVTC have tried their best to coordinate resource projects into the villages and households to carry out poverty alleviation work. Just in this countryside visit, the delegation led by Liu Zilin encountered 3 poverty alleviation teams organized by different functional departments and secondary schools, including the School of Marxism carrying out theoretical propaganda and psychological counseling for left-behind children, the Community School carrying out the training programs for transfer employment of laborers from poor households, and the LVTC students carrying out the “Bringing Culture/Science and Technology/Hygienic Health to the Countryside” summer social practice activities and serving as assistants for poverty alleviation work. It can be seen that the whole College is united in the common idea of assisting in poverty alleviation.
